Simple, effective and reasonably robust but has a flaw

I was pleasantly surprised and excited when this rowing machine first arrived. It was well packed and the frame, supports and track were of reasonable gauge steel. I tried it out and after 5 minutes of use I was hearing a click and feeling a notch each time I took a stroke. The click was coming from the area of the piston where a metal pin secures the piston to the handle. I removed the pin and saw that it was damaged. I did not see any damage when I first installed it. There were two grooves and some marks on the pin from where it was rubbing on the frame (metal on metal). The pin is made from soft metal and if it can be grooved after 5 minutes of use I can't imagine that it's going to last very long. Also, the Amazon product description includes "Adjustable foot straps." I did not receive any foot straps. It's possible that Amazon made a mistake and the machine does not come with foot straps because I don't see any in the product picture. It is disappointing to get a new... 3/5 John E. The greatest at any price!

FedEx just delivered my Sunny Health and Fitness Rowing Machine which was shipped in an excellent outer box with absolutely no holes or rips in it! The rower is completely assembled except for the handle bars which bolted on quickly with the enclosed wrench and 2 big bolts. I installed the console which was a simple slide on affair with a simple wire plug in. I never use consoles but I installed it anyway....it came with batteries included! There were no straps to hold the feet on an NONE ARE NEEDED!The seat isn't the best in the world but solid and glides easily and smoothly. I might add a small cushion for longer sessions. The hydraulic piston adjusts easily and goes from real easy to real difficult. So far I am estatic about my rower, but time will tell if I remain so. Am 86 years old and after a few minutes on the 2nd setting, I can feel the muscles in my thighs complaining, which is proof positive that the rower is doing the job it is intended for... 5/5 Melvin H. Exactly as expected

Pros:CheapLight weight (20ish lbs and can be comfortably carried in one hand when grasped in the middle.)Simple sturdy construction (i cannot foresee anything braking without excessive misuse i.e. using it as a weapon)Stupidly simple assembly: (connected the resistance cylinder to the handle bars with the quick release pin; 2 bolts to attach the handle grips (tool included); plugged in the computer and slide it on to the handle bars; and extend and lock the back feet with the over-sized hand screw. Nice rower with nice resistance....but dat display tho

If one were to rate the machine for is mechanical properties ( as most machines are rated ) then this guy would get at least 10 stars easy. Its no Concept 2 but it costs a third of the price and offers some pretty nice resistance. The assembly is ridiculously easy but I work for IKEA so following instructions isn't even a problem; however, I will give them credit for separating the bags of parts based on the steps they go with. The machine folds up rather well and it takes up as much space as the bike I use on a trainer. Why give it a 3? Well....as far as price and function, the machine is super special awesome, but I must have drawn a frayed straw when I got my package in the mail. The cool advertised display ( mine at least) , doesn't track any activity whatsoever. It constantly displays "STOP" as if one isn't using it...even after multiple rows. I contacted the manufacture and they say it could be a bad sensor which the parts department may have spares for but we shall see... 5/5 Rex Blake - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) As the previous review mentioned, this is no Concept2 rower. I'll start with the negatives...The rollers for the seat are not as smooth. The nylon strap that works as the chain to pull the system has a very narrow gap to go though to avoid rubbing. I prefer to lean forward (from the back) when contracting while rower instead of sitting tall though the whole motion, this machine is to short that is causes me to return the handle all the way to the home position without being about to go any further for more range of motion. That being said, I am only 5'8" so a much taller person might not be able to lean forward much, if at all, if you rower in this fashion. This was my first magnetic resistance rower and if you have never used one before, just be warned their an odd feeling over air (I knew this before buying and you should research it yourself too). Finally, related to the resistance, the magnetic resistance doesn't increase the fast you go like an air resistance goes... 5/5 Jason - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) But that's cause I hate working out. The rowing machine is actually great! It gives you a nice sweaty workout. It isn't very hard to put away. And if you do research on it, rowing is one of the best overall workouts out there. Still hate working out, but at least I can do it in front of the TV to try to distract myself while I force my ass to move. Great Air Rower for a Great Price!

I took delivery of this almost two weeks ago and wanted to delay writing a review until I had time to use it for a bit. This is very much like a Concept II Model A rowing machine, which is a good thing. When I took delivery I put it together myself. Due to the weight of the parts I would recommend two people. It only took about an hour to put it together nonetheless.I used to work in aerospace manufacturing so went over it thoroughly to check the manufacturing and quality of parts and am pretty impressed. It's a very sturdy piece of kit! The seat rollers are adjustable as are the footrests and the electronics show stroke rate, calories burned, time rowing, etc. I also purchased a heart rate monitor to check my time in zone. The seat is also well made; when I read that the seat was padded I expected something shoddy for the price but it's a soft plastic/hard rubber material that's just the right stiffness for long rowing workouts. I can unlock the fan to fold it over and it... 5/5 Mikster (Seattle) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 1/5 Janet GK - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Stamina 35-1405 ATS Air Rower (Sports) DO NOT BUY THIS ROWER! It has a major manufacturing and design flaw. I had the same problems as Lisa G. listed above. I got the run around from Stamina. I finally had a mechancially inclined friend fix it for me. Stamina was NO HELP WHATSOEVER. They told me to trash the first rower and then sent me a second rower with THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM--the chain gets caught! I have no idea how long the rower will last and I don't expect Stamina to do the right thing. The only reason I got any satisfaction was because the distributor intervened--they actually care about customer satisfaction. Save your money, don't buy this piece of junk, get a Concept 2. I wish I had. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , November 21, 2010

Started Good, Now Disappointing, Maybe Dangerous

We just assembled our new Stamina 1215 Orbital Rower. It took about an hour and a half. The machine feels pretty sturdy to me. Is it worth $279? Hard to say, but with everything so overpriced these days, who knows? The acid test is usually how long something lasts, so it will be worth the money if it gives several years of good service. I've done my first half hour of rowing and it's a fairly smooth action and relatively quiet. On some sites, a few people complained that the lowest setting is too tough for beginners, and I agree. But you can set the arms even a little lower than the bottom number, and this helps. I've had two rowing machines in the past and this one is as good or better than they were. I like the ability to set the back of the bar up higher which aids in getting off and on the rower. I was concerned about the 'orbital' action of the arms, but find it's easy to adjust to, and in effect, you can just row as normal and not use the orbital ability at all. 4/5 Sailor Don - See all my reviews This review is from: Stamina 1215 Orbital Rowing Machine with Free Motion Arms (Sports) After using this exercise machine for about a month (9 total exercise hours), I have found it is basically a good machine for the price. After 4 hours of use, one of the hydraulic shocks developed a "dead spot" at the start of the stroke. I called the Stamina toll free number for customer support. They sent out a replacement shock which seems to be working OK.The 4 roller wheels on the seat slide are molded plastic. They aren't exactly round so they "rumble" a little bit. It would be nice if they were smooth without mold marks on the running surfaces. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 30, 2008

    Great rower

I bought a used rower years ago and came to work it several times a week. I'm a busy person, so I don't have time for a sophisticated work out routine. I just want to work one machine for both strength and aerobic training. Rowing is great for this purpose. When I broke my rower, I started shopping. Unfortunately, even used rowers are over $100. I struggled with this model versus the smaller ones that stand up vertically for easy storage. I couldn't find any reviews on this that addressed the storage question. Finally, I chose it because it didn't look like I could break it from normal usage, whereas the kind that fold nicely seem flimsy.Pros:- This machine is very sturdy. It's solid, stable, and does not rock at all when in use.- It is amazingly quiet. The only sound is the whisper of the pistons. I can use it with the TV on normal volume.- The seat is very comfortable. I sat on it for 30 minutes the first time with no... 4/5 David Applegate (Ohio) - See all my reviews, February 18, 2006
