Started Good, Now Disappointing, Maybe Dangerous

We just assembled our new Stamina 1215 Orbital Rower. It took about an hour and a half. The machine feels pretty sturdy to me. Is it worth $279? Hard to say, but with everything so overpriced these days, who knows? The acid test is usually how long something lasts, so it will be worth the money if it gives several years of good service. I've done my first half hour of rowing and it's a fairly smooth action and relatively quiet. On some sites, a few people complained that the lowest setting is too tough for beginners, and I agree. But you can set the arms even a little lower than the bottom number, and this helps. I've had two rowing machines in the past and this one is as good or better than they were. I like the ability to set the back of the bar up higher which aids in getting off and on the rower. I was concerned about the 'orbital' action of the arms, but find it's easy to adjust to, and in effect, you can just row as normal and not use the orbital ability at all. I'm... 5/5 marquis (New England) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) I am not understanding the negative reviews...

I read A LOT of reviews before I purchased this one and compared it to many different brands. Not only am I tall at 5'11" but I am large bone structure (physically heavier/dense weight) and very strong for a girl. So I had a lot to consider. I didn't want something with easy peezy arm resistance, or would fall apart on use. During a car accident 18 months ago I fractured cartilage on the femoral head, tibial head, and tibial plateau. At the time I was training for a marathon. Since then I have had 2 surgeries and will never run again. The hardest part of this is finding a workout that gets my heart going while easy on the knees. I found it! This machine is great! Yes it is a bit lower to the floor than expected, but what was I really expecting? Follow the instructions for assembly and you are good to go! I have had no squeaking, squealing, or breakage after using it 3-4 days a week. I am at the lowest arm resistance and it makes me happy to know the entry level resistance is... 5/5 A. Customer Video Review Length:: 1:17 MinsSo far, so good. I was a little upset that there weren't any video reviews for this product, (youtube, from the company itself etc.) so I promised myself that I'd make a video demonstration for others to judge. The basic stuff you need to know: There are 12 levels of resistance (I was using resistance level 8).The computer tells you how many complete rows you have performed, time performed, calories burned or you can scan through all three (My computer didn't work when it first arrived, but after a solid punch it woke up and started working). The resistance is nice. You'll get a good workout with this inexpensive machine. Storage is convenient, but don't be fooled, 35 pounds is heavy to move around from room to room. Keep the machine close to where you plan on using it. Finally, the footstraps were a major complaint. My complaint about the footstraps is that it doesn't hold your feet securely against the footrests. The clicking noise you hear in... 5/5 Louie the Italian Jew - See all my reviews, September 25, 2010

    I've had this for 1 1/2 years - still a great machine

I've used this machine for 45 min every other day for a year and a half. It is this only exercise that I do and I have seen remarkable results. I am 30 years old and I have lost thirty pounds of fat and have turned an average body type in an athletic one. My back and shoulders have especially benefited. Those are the results you can expect from using this low impact, compact, easy to use and actually pretty fun piece of exercise equipment - all form the comfort of your living room.As for the machine itself: Pros:It is sturdy - I am 6'2" and 190lbs (started at 220lbs) and have never had a problem with stability.I like the free rowing arms (as opposed to a bar like I've seen at gyms), gives the feel of a real row boat and also allows for exercising different parts of arms and back.Quick results - and probably quicker if I made some changes to my diet.Cons:Calorie counter sucks butt. I too had the problem with my shoes slipping out of the foot straps. The back rim isn't tall enough. However, for about $1 you can mod the peddles for a quick fix. I cut a 4" PVC end cap in half and bolted them to the peddles as shown in the attached photo. Works great and fits my big shoes., January 17, 2015

This machine may save my life

I'm a former marathon runner who now has severe arthritic pain in both knees. Even walking long distances hurts. I transitioned to an elliptical machine, which was better, but still leaves me with some pain as there is still some weight bearing. I'd stopped exercising for the last few years, and have watched my weight balloon and my health start to decline. I'm so out of shape that housework and even climbing a flight of stair leaves me out of breath. I'm about 5'10" and a depressing 280 pounds of flab. So I'm basically starting from zero. I've talked to my doctor and orthopedist - both of which suggested swimming as an aerobic activity which won't stress my knees. No pool close to me so not an option. I found this machine by accident and was convinced by all the stellar reviews to try this. So here are my first impressions.Amazon had this delivered in two days via UPS. Came in a strong secure box, well packed with large pieces of Styrofoam.UPS brought this... 5/5 BeagleGuy (New Jersey) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Concept2 Model D has advantages over BodyCraft VR500

After much research I bought the Concept2 Model D rower. Now I am very glad I did.I was comparing the following machines* Concept2 Model D ($900)* Concept2's Model E ($1100) which is higher off the groundand probably Concept2's strongest competitor on quality (but not price)...* BodyCraft VR500 (listed for $1900, usually on sale for $1500-1600)Also high off the ground like the Model E, and with a long monorail (both Concept2 models D and E also have an available longer monorail, for people with inseams of 38 inches/96.5cm or longer)I tested the Concept2 at my local YMCA before buying it (Concept2's website shows a listing of YMCA's with a Concept2 in your zip code). Amazing.

I resisted all the black Friday deals on rowers and bought this one based on the positive reviews. I'm glad I did. Amazon shipped it to me in 2 days. Comes in a large box that weighs about 60 lbs. Very well packaged. Puts together with just 8 bolts. All the tools are included. Took 5 minutes.Despite the positive reviews, this item exceeded my expectations. The machine is extraordinarily solid. No wiggles or give what so ever. Just unbelievable for a 55 lb machine. The rowing motion is great. Clutch uptake is without slack. The slide is smooth. There are complaints about the seat being too hard. I though that the seat was hard plastic, but it's very firm rubber. There is cushion, and I didn't have any problems at all. I bought a gel cushion, but don't find that I need it.I was a bit worried about noise since my machine is in a hard room. But there is not much noise. I'm able to hear the TV from across the room.Overall, this is one... 5/5 Larkspur (Colorado Springs, CO) - See all my reviews, December 4, 2014

Built like a tank ~ Designed to last a lifetime ~ Made in USA

This is the best investment that I've ever made in a piece of exercise equipment. It will literally last a lifetime.I was looking for a high quality indoor rowing machine, as it's one of the best workouts for your entire body. I'm so glad that I not only purchased a Concept2, but that I opted to pay the extra cost for the Model E. Since the Model E is elevated to the same level as a regular chair, it's much easier to get in and out of than the Model D. This is of particular importance if you have any issues with mobility or if you're elderly. In my case, due to having had back surgery, it was essential that I purchased this model. It's absolutely worth the extra cost.Since first using this rower on 04/13/2014 I've logged over 200,000 meters, which is close to 125 miles. The feel of the rower is exquisite. Since it's made of such high quality materials, using it is all but effortless. The seat slides along the monorail in near total silence and the fan noise is... 5/5 Expressed Reviews (Upstate NY) - See all my reviews, December 5, 2014

Best piece of exercise equipment that money can buy

Concept2 has been the leader in its field since 1981. Whether you buy the model E or the functionally identical and cheaper model D (a better choice for anyone without severe mobility problems), you will have a piece of exercise equipment that is simply perfect. Both machines come with an outstanding performance monitor that interfaces with PCs, iPads, Android devices and iPhones. Using my machine, my resting pulse rate went from ~65 to ~40, blood pressure dropped dramatically from ~130/80 to ~105/65 and, when my doctor tested my lung capacity, I broke his testing machine. This machine will make you lean, massively increase your lung capacity and cardiovascular fitness, and drop your weight, heart rate, and blood pressure. There is an active online community, and online rowing software so that you can row with others, and therefore never need to row alone. The machines are basically indestructible, and C2 still supports its products going back to the original model A of more than 30... 5/5 Kuma (Berkeley, California) - See all my reviews This review is from: Concept2 Model E Indoor Rowing Machine with PM5 (Sports) Concept2 has been the leader in its field since 1981. I have had my Concept2 rower for about 8 years now and it continues to perform flawlessly. a little off balance, but overall good basic rower

This rower is a little off balance, but overall good basic rower. Ill start with a few not so terrible cons...I am not very mechanically inclined but was able to figure it out although some parts of the pictures in the instruction manual didn't actually coincide with the directions. Also the base in the front is a little off balanced uneven due to one side of it being far less curved than the opposite side (its impossible to manually reshape it ). But this didn't affect the operation for me. I couldn't figure how the timer or monitor either. Its pretty ineffective. So I just time myself via my cell or a clock. I wish the handles and seat were a little more cushioned. This rower does provide a tough workout. Setting 3 is where I began- it initially was fairly easy and I began sweating after 15 mins. I recently increased the resistance to 5 and was struggling to get througj 5 mins- so i have something to work towards.I can mainly feel the aftermath in my arms, hips/buttocks and thighs... 4/5 Teal - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) 3/5 wfwkwa - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Rowing Machine Workout Abs Arms Legs and Back Home Gym Exerciser (Misc.) I finally wore out my old rowing machine, and this is a pretty good unit. It's simple and effective. For me, the seat is a little small, the handles could be a little wider, and I would rather have had the resistence level marker on top where it could be better seen, instead of on the side. It seems reasonably well built and should last a long time in regular use. It does stow away easily.
