Started Good, Now Disappointing, Maybe Dangerous

We just assembled our new Stamina 1215 Orbital Rower. It took about an hour and a half. The machine feels pretty sturdy to me. Is it worth $279? Hard to say, but with everything so overpriced these days, who knows? The acid test is usually how long something lasts, so it will be worth the money if it gives several years of good service. I've done my first half hour of rowing and it's a fairly smooth action and relatively quiet. On some sites, a few people complained that the lowest setting is too tough for beginners, and I agree. But you can set the arms even a little lower than the bottom number, and this helps. I've had two rowing machines in the past and this one is as good or better than they were. I like the ability to set the back of the bar up higher which aids in getting off and on the rower. I was concerned about the 'orbital' action of the arms, but find it's easy to adjust to, and in effect, you can just row as normal and not use the orbital ability at all. 0 4/5 Sailor Don "Rower man" - See all my reviews This review is from: Stamina 1215 Orbital Rowing Machine with Free Motion Arms (Sports) After using this exercise machine for about a month (9 total exercise hours), I have found it is basically a good machine for the price. After 4 hours of use, one of the hydraulic shocks developed a "dead spot" at the start of the stroke. I called the Stamina toll free number for customer support. They sent out a replacement shock which seems to be working OK.The 4 roller wheels on the seat slide are molded plastic. They aren't exactly round so they "rumble" a little bit. It would be nice if they were smooth without mold marks on the running surfaces. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 30, 2008

    Demo of Stamina Rower

Customer Video Review Length:: 1:16 MinsSo far, so good. I was a little upset that there weren't any video reviews for this product, (youtube, from the company itself etc.) so I promised myself that I'd make a video demonstration for others to judge. The basic stuff you need to know: There are 12 levels of resistance (I was using resistance level 8).The computer tells you how many complete rows you have performed, time performed, calories burned or you can scan through all three (My computer didn't work when it first arrived, but after a solid punch it woke up and started working). The resistance is nice. You'll get a good workout with this inexpensive machine. Storage is convenient, but don't be fooled, 35 pounds is heavy to move around from room to room. Keep the machine close to where you plan on using it. Finally, the footstraps were a major complaint. My complaint about the footstraps is that it doesn't hold your feet securely against the footrests. The clicking noise you hear in... 5/5 Louie the Italian Jew "Lou da Joo" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews, September 25, 2010

Real rowing (oar-like) action, rather than just pulling on a single T-bar.b. Comfortable even with tall people (I'm 6'1').c. Adjustable rowing tension.d. A very sturdy, rigid, and well-built frame.e. Easy to assemble.f. Takes little room to use.g. Very low cost (one hundred twenty dollars).CONS:a. The seat is not well padded.b. The unit creaks and squeaks a bit until it is warmed-up.c. No instructions explaining how to actually row properly. (I found some great videos and info on the Web, however, that instruct as to how to use rowing machines). You simply cannot beat this Stamina Body Trac Rowing Machine at this very low cost -- it is an amazing deal! 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , December 20, 2006

I know I'm going against the grain, but it's really worthless

Don't be fooled by its slick appearance: Whoever designed this machine has no clue about rowing. To row the standard 2000m distance on the BodyCraft VR100 takes EXACTLY two hundred and twenty strokes. It does not matter if you take 220 long, powerful strokes or 220 stunted, one-foot strokes; the computer always displays 2 km. Nor is it responsive to resistance. 220 strokes at the highest resistance level gives you 2 km, as it does at the very lowest resistance level. Also, according to the computer, you burn .6 calories for every stroke; it does not matter if they are long and laborious or short and effortless. Clearly, the manufacturers installed a dummy computer to fool unwitting buyers - in no way does it measure power, like a real ergometer. Thus, the exerciser has ALMOST NO CLUE about his performance and fitness. The computer is nothing more than a stroke counter and a clock. (The "stroke rate" indicator is fickle and nearly useless, and the "speed" is also... 1/5 Rowist - See all my reviews This review is from: BodyCraft VR100 Rowing Machine (Sports) Don't be fooled by its slick appearance: Whoever designed this machine has no clue about rowing. To row the standard 2000m distance on the BodyCraft VR100 takes EXACTLY two hundred and twenty strokes. This rowing machine ROCKS!

I was/am a runner who constantly was sustaining leg injuries of one type or another. I finally yielded to the fact that I needed to seriously cross train and reduce my running. I decided to row, however I abhore having to spend tons of cash on exercise equipment to work out indoors when running is virtually free outside. I originally wanted to spend only a few hundred dollar so at least I could get my work outs in and see if I really liked rowing. After reading every review I could find, I decided that it may be in my best interest to spend more than a few hundred dollars. When I chose the Body Craft VR100 rower I figured that I would still be compromising quality since it was a mid-priced unit. I didn't want to listen to things click and clack, and have to tighten things that would loosen over time. Much to my amazement, this rower Rocks! It was really easy to put together, the parts are high quality, and the important thing is when you row you don't even think about the fact... 5/5 T. Popper - See all my reviews, March 8, 2007

    Fantastic Piece of Equipment

This is a great piece of equipment. If you are wondering if quality is compromised as a result of the 2-for-1 deal, you'll be very happy to know that it isn't. This is a smooth and quiet piece of equipment. I am very impressed with it. It is of very nice quality. It took me about an hour to put together because I was being very attentive to the directions and taking my time. At first sight, the instructions are slightly confusing but it only takes a few minutes of looking over everything to understand them. The monitor is of nice quality and has several different modes: time, speed, calorie, pulse, RPM and distance. It's actually built into the bike/rower with this model as opposed to being on top like a very similar model that currently goes for $100 less. To me, it looks better built in as it is with this model. Now that I've said that, what I specifically like about this bike/rower is that is really more like a 3-in-1 machine. I received the Stamina rower/bike a few months ago. I wanted to use it for a while before I wrote a review, so I could comment on durability.Overall, I am very pleased. It is constructed well and it's very smooth. It is an excellent value, considering you get an exercise rower and a recumbent exercise bike in one.My rower/bike arrived in perfect condition. There was absolutely no damage from shipping. It was fairly simple to assemble, and using my own tools made it even easier. It comes with a set of rudimentary tools that will do the job, but it just takes longer.*A note on assembly: Some of the bolts and screws are pre-installed on the unit and are not included in the bag. During assembly, if you think you are missing a bolt, look on the unit, it's probably already in place.I read some reviews stating the resistance was too light. Wouldn't send it BACK! Hahaha...Get it? Rows and pulldowns are for the back?Hahaha...Tough crowd.

Let me preface by saying that I've been lifting weights regularly for the last 10 years. I am hard on equipment and expect a lot out of the pieces I buy. Especially when I pay a good deal for them. I've had a few injuries in the last year that have limited some of the heavy movements I love so much and as such I'm relying more on machines to make up the difference. The most recent in my home-gym is the XMark Fitness Commercial Lat Pulldown and Low Row Machine (XM-7618).I've only had this piece of equipment for a week and can't testify to how well it stands up to the long haul but so far I'm impressed with the functionality. The movement of the cables and the slide along the rails is smooth and seamless. I am also pleased with the craftsmanship. Nothing on this machine feels flimsy.I'm more than pleased with the olympic adapter sleeves that come with the XM-7618, as I only have olympic plates.I'm just under 6' in height and have no problem... 4/5 Josh Denoncourt - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?) Solid Budget Machine

I've had this machine now for over two months. I'll keep it short and simple with just the meat and potatoes of this thing. The vertical post does shift back and forth, as well as the seat post. The gauge of the tubing is not heavy enough to just crank the bolts down. If you crank the bolts down, the square tubing will just deform. I threw wood shims under the seat post. To remedy the large post shifting back and fourth, I simply put more slack in the cable, so when the weight stack hits bottom it's not putting any tension on the pulleys. You cannot do standing overhead tricep work without cutting a slot in front of the top pulley. As another reviewer said, the low pulley is really low. Rows feel odd, but it's not a deal breaker for doing them. Lying bicep curls will put the fear of god into you as the chain rides on your crotch. The only other thing that's annoying is the weight sled will stick to the rubber bumpers on the bottom when it sits overnight. Spray the bumpers... 4/5 Jason - See all my reviews This review is from: XMark Commercial Lat Pulldown and Low Row Cable Machine (Sports) I've had this machine now for over two months.
