Solid elliptical for the average user

For the price this is a really great elliptical so far. For those that say it's the same feel as a club elliptical, I disagree. It's very sturdy but it does have more movement that a commercial elliptical. The movement doesn't bother me during the workout at all but having my tablet on the tablet holder moving while I'm trying to watch it makes it a little difficult, but I'm getting used to it. A fixed mount TV in the room would solve this problem. I worked for a company that manufactured high end fitness equipment for years and, although this isn't exactly comparable, it is definitely adequate for an average person of average weight. It says 300 lbs but I would say anyone over 225 would want to invest in a heavier duty model. The stride is smooth, electronics are adequate and it has a nice look and feel. I'm very sensitive to stride and this one doesn't have the annoying kick/bump feeling at the back of the stride that some less expensive brands do. Overall I am very very impressed... 4/5 2-Step (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A well made, Sturdy, Long-lasting piece of equipment.

According to the hubby, the instructions were easy-to-follow. Be careful unpacking the unit there hardware pieces attached to the parts - we discovered the hardware for the Arm Pivot Rod in the bottom of the box. It includes 3 tools, be sure to have a backup for the Hex Head tool - it broke while tightening the 2nd bolt (see picture #1).The 2nd & 3rd picture show damage to the wheel within the frame. It does not seem to affect the overall experience, but be sure to inspect all parts prior to assembly.Once assembled, I set up user accounts for both myself and hubby. Both of us have used it daily for the last couple of days. I have been occasionally using one at my gym over the past few years and found it comparable to gym's equipment - similar exercise experience. The hubby has not used an elliptical before and was impressed with the workout.Overall, a great addition to our home-gym. Loss one star for damage to wheel and breakable tool... 4/5 BBMoreB (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews, November 30, 2014

    USB Upload not working :-(

Just did my first workout, so here's my initial thoughts--Pros: really sturdy and well structured piece of equipment. I am 5'10" with a 33" inseam and the 20" stride length is just fine. I worked out on the rolling hills program with the beginning resistance and got my heart rate up within minutes. There's plenty of room for improvement between the incline and increasing resistance. I would be dreaming if I thought I'd ever max-out this machine! It's very quiet and smooth. The handles are closer in and at a nice height so I don't feel like I am overextending my arms, but I do have a fairly long reach, so if you're much shorter than 5'4" it might be for you. The heart rate monitor picked up quickly although you do have to move your hands from the moving handles to the stationary ones.Cons: I have been unsuccessful uploading my workout to the flash drive. I am following the instructions to the letter and tried several times. This is a bummer. I can't... 3/5 DanKat (Hesperia, CA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) GREAT machine, very good price/value. Take your time assembling & pick up these extras when you purchase.

Firstly, we are big treadmill people. We live on the second floor in our apartment complex, and after years of slopping around we knew we had to start investing in our health again and a treadmill wasn't an option. An Elliptical was the logical option. We read the reviews and this machine seemed to bring value and quality together. After a few days of using the A40, I'm very pleased and can recommend it to others in the same situation.ASSEMBLYThe box it arrived in is very tightly packed and quite heavy. During the unpack is when I first realized this $400 machine was higher quality than I anticipated as the parts are pretty heavy duty. It took a few hours to put together although we did not rush and took our time. It's super important when assembling the machine to follow the instructions and not fully tighten the bolts until everything is in place or it will cause misalignment of holes and bolts which then can lead to stripping threads - just take... 5/5 Shane & Brenda Smith - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Sturdy, quiet & everything I need in an elliptical

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:36 MinsMy short video review goes into more detail, but in summary the Schwinn a40 Elliptical is:* Light in weight but sturdy and quiet (I can move it about as needed with the casters)* The 6 programs are each challenging yet enjoyable* Computer console, while not lighted, is easy to see (and use) - I love the feedback readings for heart rate, calories, distance* It is quiet yet very sturdy* Speakers are adequate for my workoutsNov. 25 edit: It seems the issue with the two parts not fitting together mentioned in my initial review was due to cold weather - the box had been stored in the garage where it is very cold. Once the parts were inside for 24 hours they in fact fit together. Original review below.---This review will evolve as I get info from Schwinn.I own and have assembled two other Schwinn Elliptical trainers - the 450 and the 425 (2013 model). I had no trouble putting those... 5/5 Mr. Deeds (Columbus, Ohio) - See all my reviews, November 24, 2013

    GREAT MACHINE FOR THE MONEY

After doing several hours of research and even going to a sporting goods store to try out some models I decided to get the Schwinn A40. It was a little over my budget of what I wanted to spend but the $200 models Ive seen just did not seem sturdy enough or of real decent quality. So I saw this model usually goes for $599 but I got it for $379. I saw several complaints about how hard it was to put together or that it was missing parts. I don't see how it could miss any parts since they all come in a shrink wrapped plastic sheet, I had all my parts plus to extra screws. As far as putting it together, by myself it took me just under 2 hours and the only extra tool I used was a ratchet screwdriver for a few parts, was very easy and I thought they overall build quality was very good. I saw some reviews about cheap parts but I did not see anything that I would call substandard. Only real problem I had was I had to disassemble the top arms to get the machine into the room I wanted... 5/5 Nautilus Consumer Relations says:, February 15, 2014

4/5 Amazon Customer - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) This review is from: Nordic Track Elliptical Model NCCEL09940 CX 990 Pedal Arm Roller Ramp Roller (Misc.) Made my elliptical work like new. Seem a little crazy to pay $25 for a bigged up roller blade wheel, but it was $130 at the treadmill parts websites, so while I feel like I was robbed, at least I wasn't beaten. Great while it lasted.

I bought this for my NordicTrack CX990 to replace a wheel that had gotten damaged. The installation was reasonably easy. I found that it provided smooth nearly frictionless action during my workouts (approximately 3x per week between 20-60 minutes). I owned this for a little less than 4 months and then the plastic holding the wheel bearing just fell apart (see my user image). Overall I thought it was a nice wheel, but it just didn't last as long as it should have. I am hoping this is just a defective part and that this product line doesn't suffer poor craftsmanship. Since I got some use out of the product, I didn't want to give it just one star. I contacted the seller and I hope they can resolve this relatively quickly. I will update this pending their response.Edit 8/17/12I was quite impressed with the seller's response (TreadmillPartsZone). They quickly sent me a replacement wheel (even though they did state the disclaimer that all parts only have a 30 day... 3/5 Anthony R (Lincoln, NE, US) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?)
