    Awesome FUN work out!

The Schwinn 430 Elliptical Machine is a beast of a machine! At a shipping weight of 226 pounds, your workout will begin with simply getting it into the house. (Although the lovely man from the shipping company kindly delivered it up our two steps and indoors.) Set up time was about 90 minutes. The machine is 5'6" in height and is 5'9" long. At the shortest incline setting you are already 1'4" off the ground, so you will need a ceiling height of at least 8' to avoid conking your noggin! My 6'5" husband hopped onto it and realized that he was looking down at the ceiling fan! We quickly moved it to the 10' ceiling portion of our Great Room.Electronic components: There is an on-board fan that has three settings. It is barely directional, so at my husband's height, it hit him midchest, while at my 5'7" it was a direct face shot. It has an mp3 port, as well as a USB port. The speakers were more than adequate for a workout, but it wouldn't be able to be used as a... 5/5 D. Vance (Central USA) - See all my reviews, October 25, 2013

EXCELLENT! Many features, easy (but time-consuming) assembly

Wow! This elliptical has all the bells and whistles!I'll go item by item, since there are so many noteworthy features:**Ease of Assembly: 5 starsThe manual covered everything, and while it took some time to put together this massive box of parts, everything went smoothly and came out perfectly. For you ladies and smaller people, I was able to put it together completely alone (and am female). You probably won't need help--just some podcasts or music to entertain yourself while assembling this amazing machine, and maybe a camera phone to prove you put it together. Takes a few hours, but the feeling of accomplishment is pretty amazing.**Features and Settings: 4 starsYou can enter user data with age, height, and gender, to get better and more accurate results. Combined with sensors that let you see your heart rate, you can see what sort of activity you are doing (cardiovascular, fat burning, etc.), BUT the heart rate sensor didn't work so well for... 5/5 Hedera Femme (USA) - See all my reviews, November 19, 2013

Quality, Pricing and Customer Service Make This a 5

I selected this product based on its numerous positive reviews and modest price, and have been very impressed to date. The machine is sturdy and operates very smoothly. My observations:1. For its cost, I consider it an excellent value for the $599.00 I paid for it. Some reviews complained about the weight (over 200 lbs) but my question is, do you want a piece of equipment like this made out of well constructed steel, or cheap plastic parts? The warranty could be better, but you can always get one thru a 3rd party if desired.2. The parts card (bolts, washers, etc) also come with the necessary tools for assembly. Although this is a very nice and thoughtful feature, I used my own ratchet wrench w/hex head socket which saved a lot of work and allowed me to torque down the critical bolts a lot tighter than I could have with the supplied Allen wrench. Assembly time for me (good mechanical skills, lumbar facet joint arthritis, post lumbar laminectomy, herniated cervical... 5/5 Gordie (West Allis, WI) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) GREAT machine, very good price/value. Take your time assembling & pick up these extras when you purchase.

Firstly, we are big treadmill people. We live on the second floor in our apartment complex, and after years of slopping around we knew we had to start investing in our health again and a treadmill wasn't an option. After a few days of using the A40, I'm very pleased and can recommend it to others in the same situation.ASSEMBLYThe box it arrived in is very tightly packed and quite heavy. During the unpack is when I first realized this $400 machine was higher quality than I anticipated as the parts are pretty heavy duty. It took a few hours to put together although we did not rush and took our time. Sturdy, quiet & everything I need in an elliptical

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:36 MinsMy short video review goes into more detail, but in summary the Schwinn a40 Elliptical is:* Light in weight but sturdy and quiet (I can move it about as needed with the casters)* The 6 programs are each challenging yet enjoyable* Computer console, while not lighted, is easy to see (and use) - I love the feedback readings for heart rate, calories, distance* It is quiet yet very sturdy* Speakers are adequate for my workoutsNov. 25 edit: It seems the issue with the two parts not fitting together mentioned in my initial review was due to cold weather - the box had been stored in the garage where it is very cold. Once the parts were inside for 24 hours they in fact fit together. Original review below.---This review will evolve as I get info from Schwinn.I own and have assembled two other Schwinn Elliptical trainers - the 450 and the 425 (2013 model). GREAT MACHINE FOR THE MONEY

After doing several hours of research and even going to a sporting goods store to try out some models I decided to get the Schwinn A40. It was a little over my budget of what I wanted to spend but the $200 models Ive seen just did not seem sturdy enough or of real decent quality. So I saw this model usually goes for $599 but I got it for $379. I saw several complaints about how hard it was to put together or that it was missing parts. I don't see how it could miss any parts since they all come in a shrink wrapped plastic sheet, I had all my parts plus to extra screws. As far as putting it together, by myself it took me just under 2 hours and the only extra tool I used was a ratchet screwdriver for a few parts, was very easy and I thought they overall build quality was very good. I saw some reviews about cheap parts but I did not see anything that I would call substandard. Only real problem I had was I had to disassemble the top arms to get the machine into the room I wanted... 5/5 Nautilus Consumer Relations says:, February 15, 2014

Love it! It's so smooth and easy to use

I'm very pleased with this elliptical. It operates very smoothly and quietly, and it offers plenty of features that make your workout as easy or challenging as you wish. I took notes from the time it arrived so it would hopefully help potential buyers of this model know what to expect. My Schwinn 470 arrived in a very large box that had to be delivered by a freight company since it was too large and heavy for UPS or Fedex. The delivery truck was a 28 foot small freight truck which was able to get in and out of my tight neighborhood. The driver brought it inside my door. I was alone that day, so I assembled it by myself. I'm a 51 year old woman, but had no worries about the task ahead of me. I started at 11:30 and finished at 2:08. This included the time necessary to unpack everything. The machine was in a lot of pieces, each wrapped in plastic and separated by thick Styrofoam for protection. The first thing I noticed was that the flywheel housing had popped loose... 5/5 Hello Kitchen - See all my reviews, December 6, 2013

    Love it!

I spent a lot of time reading reviews trying to weigh out the pros and cons and of course cost was very important. I really wanted a machine that was mobile (but not folding), quiet and electric slope. I have been going to the gym less but because of my experience on the gym ellipticals I was spoiled with a very solid machine. The box was huge, so make sure they place it where you want to set up. Putting the elliptical together was very easy and the directions were very easy to use. It took my husband and I approximately 1 hour to put together. I like the fact that we can pick up the rear and easily move where we want in the house as there are wheels in front. The face of the machine was very nice and easy to understand when picking programs, intensity, resistance...ext. The machine has the ability to set 4 different profiles (name, weight, height, gender, ext), which is nice because I am on a completely different exerciser than my husband. Disappointed in Schwinn

Purchased this at the end of December, and it was delivered by JB Hunt on January 6; no problems with the delivery, they called ahead and 2 guys carried it inside for me, no signs of damage to the box at all. The assembly is time consuming and you need to pay attention, but it is not overly difficult. The instructions are pretty clear, but attention to the diagrams is warranted. After assembly is when the fun began. I plugged the unit it...and nothing. Console never cut on. I saw some reviews that mentioned the cable connections can be finicky, so I took it back apart and made sure all of the connections were firmly attached and couldn't pull out. Re-assembled the unit, and still nothing.I called the customer support number (all the menus say bowflex), and after waiting on hold for quite a while was able to talk with someone. Went through some basic steps with the lady on the phone (she wasn't very familiar with this particular model), who then contacted someone else... 1/5 Patrick (Richmond, VA) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) A well made, Sturdy, Long-lasting piece of equipment.

According to the hubby, the instructions were easy-to-follow. Be careful unpacking the unit there hardware pieces attached to the parts - we discovered the hardware for the Arm Pivot Rod in the bottom of the box. It includes 3 tools, be sure to have a backup for the Hex Head tool - it broke while tightening the 2nd bolt (see picture #1).The 2nd & 3rd picture show damage to the wheel within the frame. It does not seem to affect the overall experience, but be sure to inspect all parts prior to assembly.Once assembled, I set up user accounts for both myself and hubby. Both of us have used it daily for the last couple of days. I have been occasionally using one at my gym over the past few years and found it comparable to gym's equipment - similar exercise experience. The hubby has not used an elliptical before and was impressed with the workout.Overall, a great addition to our home-gym. Loss one star for damage to wheel and breakable tool... 4/5 BBMoreB "Heather Coulter" (Louisville, KY) - See all my reviews, November 30, 2014

    This is a tough workout!

I wanted this as a Christmas gift to my wife, which it is, but how do you hide a 300lb box under the tree. So it is an early present but well welcomed. And apparently welcomed by everyone in the house and not just my wife.First of all, it comes unassembled so expect to do some work. Actually, I let my older daughter (she weighs maybe 115lbs) do all the work and she did it in maybe 8 hours over two days. Yeah I know, why didn't big dad do the work? Because I have a bright daughter and she wanted to do it. Besides, now I can honestly say that once placed in the area that you want it, you don't need to be a he-man or engineer to assemble it.I already said that it is very heavy, so be careful bringing it in your house. The fellow with the truck was nice to get it in the house, but it sat in the living room for a couple of weeks while we were on vacation. We then moved it piece by piece to the desired area in the house. Fortunately, all the necessary parts... 5/5 Anthony Sanchez (Fredericksburg, va United States) - See all my reviews, December 22, 2014

Priced for the Home but feels worthy of the Gym!

The Nautilus E614 just feels like a solid piece of gym equipment. It is both heavy and very solid in its build. I think we have all used cheap ellipticals that feel like they are going to fall apart with each motion. That certainly is not the case with the E614.We are very happy with the Nautilus E614 - in fact, we wondered if we were a little too happy with its performance so we asked three different sets of friends to try it our and we all came away with the same opinion. It really does have a smooth, gym quality, motion.Notes-- Assembly - Not overly difficult, but it does take some time. I would budget at least 1 hour for assembly. It can be put together by one person, but having a second set of hands will come in handy (no pun intended).- Operation - I will not bore you with the different modes, but the actual track itself is very smooth with no signs of pinching. This review is from: ProForm Smart Strider Elliptical Trainer (Sports) My wife saw this elliptical and wanted it for her birthday. I researched and was concerned it might be too low quality, but the reviews and the fact it was "easy" to assemble, I went with it. What a mistake. It is not a week old and it is loud, squeaking constantly to where even trying to watch TV is hard. I was going to spend more and pay for assembly, which if you are trying to decide... do it, this is a low quality product and now I am not even sure how to address. 0 Help other customers find the most helpful reviews  Was this review helpful to you? , March 29, 2014

    Very solid, comfortable and quiet.

I bought this elliptical at a local shop on sale yesterday, picked it up in a truck and assembled and used it all in the same night.First of all, this box is crazy heavy. It's going to take 2-3 strong people to maneuver it anywhere. My plan was to disassemble the box in the first room and take the pieces into the basement where I would assemble the unit completely. All parts in the box were easy for one person to move except for the flywheel and attached legs. The bulkiness and weight make it almost impossible to remove from the box unless you break it down. I ended up calling a friend over where it took 3 of us to move the bulky piece. From there it took 3.5 hours to assemble fully by myself. My first suggestion is to only open one "section" of nuts and bolts at a time and organize and count them using the reference chart. Doing this made me realize that one of the washers had accidentally slipped into another section and saved me a ton of time trying to locate... 5/5 Timothy D. The middle ground between home use and commercial

I did a lot of research on elliptical machines before buying the 2013 Sole E35. With exercise equipment, there tend to be two price tiers - home use and commercial. Commercial elliptical machines can cost $2,000-$5,000 or more and are designed to withstand regular abuse. The home use products are usually made as cheaply as possible, with the goal being to entice the customer with low prices to purchase something they will use just a couple of times. However, I wanted a machine that would be sturdy, stable, smooth, and enjoyable to use, but didn't want to pay commercial prices. After reading numerous reviews on the internet, trying some machines in department stores (including the E35), and hearing positive reviews of Sole as a company, I settled on the Sole E35.Shipping: We ordered directly from Sole by calling them (go to their website). You can mention that you have heard about people getting discounted prices down to 1100 dollars, and they should match this. Solid machine, very pleased

I got this machine (2014 E35) 5 days ago and I have logged about 5 hours on it so far. Other than a little squeak that has just started, I am so so so pleased with it. The thing is SOLID and it's so quiet I can use it in the same room as someone else watching TV without cranking the volume. We had our doubts, but this thing is really well-built. I did a few years of research and tested out a bunch of different machines before I took the plunge and I am really glad I did. It's more expensive than some of the other brands but the quality is so far above that it's worth it. I am 34 and began running about 6 months ago to get in shape; since that becomes a little more challenging in winter months in the northern states, I wanted to eventually switch to an elliptical. I can not believe how low-impact it is. My muscles are getting a workout but it just doesn't feel quite as agonizing as the running and the impact is low so my limps and aches are gone. Still pleased, in spite of the squeaking!

I've been looking for a new piece of exercise equipment for a few months, as I had spinal fusion surgery this past summer and was told by my orthopedic surgeon that I need to exercise regularly to get my back muscles back into shape. I had an old exercise bike for quite a few years, but trying to pedal without lumbar support was terrible. I've looked at quite a few elliptical machines and recumbent bikes (both on amazon & the local sporting goods store) but either the price was too high or the settings were too difficult for a novice. After reading a lot of the reviews I took a chance on this piece of equipment (the price was great, 2 for the price of 1) and the fact that most people complained about a "short stride" on the elliptical setting sold me. I am 5'2" (about 115 lbs.) but I have fairly short legs and an even shorter stride. Most of the machines I tried at the sporting goods store had strides so huge that I felt like I was going to get thrown off into the wall!! So here are... 4/5 Cristina S. Assembly is your first workout! Proform Customer Service is horrible.

This product arrived in just one gigantic box the size of a small refrigerator. The UPS guy had extreme difficulty getting it up the stairs in front of the house and we had to go out and help him. It took the 2 of us 4 hours to put it together on a Saturday afternoon. I have assembled many products out of boxes and this was by far the most difficult one. If you have a power screw driver it might help. You should also consider paying a handyman to do the assembly for you. The product comes with an 800 number to call for a professional assembly but I am sure it will cost quite a bit. We were unable to get the heart rate monitor to work so I will try to use the manufacturer's warranty for that. Keep in mind that it will be very difficult to return this product due to it's weight and repacking challenges. We had to put a lamp near the trainer because the monitor has no back light. The trainer is completely silent and works well. The conversion from one to the other requires the removal of... 1/5 Rick (NJ/NYC) - See all my reviews Verified Purchase(What's this?) Great Build - Great Feel - Crappy Extras!

What sold me was the build quality and the solid, smooth feel when using it. I went to Sears to do some testing, so I jumped from one machine to the other. This unit was by far the best is the sub $2,000 range. I ended up ordering it from SOLE's website. I recieved the unit in a couple of days. It took about 3-1/2 hrs to unbox and set the unit up (by myself). My complaints (and why I did't give it a 5 star rating) is:1. The hardware (bolts, washers, etc.) are not the best quality. They skimped on the washers and have you only putting washers on one side in most places. This leads to ugly looking scratched paint when bolt turns. Washers bend and cause metal (frame) under them start to cave in when tightening. Metric size hex heads and (possibly undersized - cheap from China?) causes wrenches to slip off (rounding bolt/nut heads).2. They really didn't provide the best option to set your iPod/MP3 player, etc. Blocks view of LCD (stupid!).3. Speakers... 3/5 D. Rhoads (So.Cal.) - See all my reviews, March 22, 2013

    It works for me!

After doing an extended amount of research both at my local shopping malls and on the Internet, I chose the Sole E95 because it really is the best bang for the buck in the $1,200 to $1,900 price range in my researched opinion. Before purchasing my elliptical machine here on Amazon, I went to Sears and other sporting goods stores and tested the machine along with several others (NordicTrack, ProForm, Horizon, Livestrong, Nautilus, Best Fitness) which are also available here on the Internet. Not one of the other brands that I tested came even close to how the E95 operates and feels during a workout. Machines such as the "NordicTrack Elite 17.7" had very cool display interaction software and others had Jillian from the "Biggest Loser" or HD videos to help move you along, but in the end it was all about the machine itself and not the bells & whistles for me.I went with the Sole E95 over the E35 because the E95 has a heavier flywheel which is a main... 4/5 SDphotoman "I love to lsiten to audio books." Excellent product, exemplary service

We had a Sole E95 elliptical that ran flawlessly for four years. My wife used it every day (sometimes twice) for 45 mins to an hour, and when I've needed to get into shape I've had a few extended stints on it over the years. I think we had to lube the bars under the rollers a few times but that was it for maintenance. Never made any unusual noises or squeaks. Feels like a club-quality machine and was the only thing in a reasonable price range that did so out of all of those we tried. The incline motor stopped working last month. Frankly, after four years of usage I felt like we had gotten our money's worth and would have been happy to buy a new machine. However, Sole sent as enough replacement parts to practically build a new elliptical while we tried to figure it out, but after we had tried everything and it was still broken, they RMA'd our old machine and shipped us a brand new 2013 model. They didn't charge us a dime for the new machine - the only costs we incurred were... 5/5 cassian78 "cassian78" (Orlando, FL United States) - See all my reviews This review is from: Sole Fitness E95 Elliptical Machine (Sports) We had a Sole E95 elliptical that ran flawlessly for four years. Solid machine, easy to assemble and fun to use

Our elliptical trainer arrived in a large cardboard box, that needed two people to move it. We had it delivered in our garage and carried the pieces down to the basement and assembled it there. The only difficult part of this was the base, which also needed to people to move - it's heavy and awkward. The box contained Styrofoam which was marked for recycling, and all the plastic bags were clearly marked with recycling symbols. I give them good marks for making recycling easier.Assembly was extremely easy. The directions were fairly clear and the parts needed for each of the assembly steps was individually packed, see my photo. Some parts are left or right oriented and those are clearly marked with L or R stickers. It also came with all the tools needed for assembly. I put it together in about an hour. NOTE: I needed to tighten some of the nuts after we'd used the machine for 3 weeks. I noticed this after the elliptical was noisy to use, normally it's extremely quiet... 4/5 Bernard Farrell (North of Boston, MA USA) - See all my reviews, January 23, 2011

Works great with TVs--Saves me at least an hour a day, and Compact in Size!

I'm a relatively active outdoors person also with numerous indoor exercise equipment, dislike gym ellipticals, and expected this elliptical would be a minor use item. Was I surprised!Probably the greatest impediments to most people's exercising are: lack of motivation and time. This mindless, requiring low-motivation (both desirable characteristics) exerciser works excellently with high-wall-hanging TVs, so one can learn or be entertained, while exercising; thus perhaps saving an hour of time daily!Rowing machines are noisy. Free weights and home weight-gyms cause interrupted flows in viewing due to constant changing of weights and head angles. Treadmills require concentration and has too much bounce to enjoy the shows. Gazelle gliders lack adjustable resistance and also require concentration and has too much bounce. Boxing bags or jumping with ropes cause interruptions and bounce. Gym ellipticals either require my watching boring commonly-watched TV... 5/5 Chen Sun "WebAndNet.com" (Houston, TX United States) - See all my reviews, October 25, 2011

My Favorite Amazon Purchase This Year!

This is such a wonderful addition to my home gym. I have definitely learned my lesson that you get what you pay for. A little over a year ago I weighed 270 pounds (I am only 21 years old). I knew that I needed to change, but I didn't know where to start. My boyfriend ended up purchasing a different elliptical for me (the ProForm Hybrid Trainer) because of the decent reviews and the price.I discovered that I absolutely loved using an elliptical! I honestly spent most of my time parked right in front of the TV exercising away on my machine. Unfortunately after a handful of months the Proform started making terrible noises. My boyfriend did a whole bunch of work to the machine and it was OK for a little while, but eventually the noises returned. I was able to deal with the noises without much of a problem (between the TV and music I hardly even noticed); however, then the pedals starting slipping off of the track. It was absolutely terrible and I could no longer use it.
